the Gay Jihad is Cumming!

Okay, so I can't just post porn all the damned time, right? Well, several months ago, right before the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Gay Marriage, there was some of the expected hyperbole coming from the political right. Notably, our esteemed Senator, Ted Cruz, went so far as to say there is a Gay Jihad being waged against Christianity... The following video is the only logical response I could think of:

Ignoring my own sexual tastes for the sake of objectivity, it was in the late 90's that I heard an argument against gay-marriage that immediately made me support the equal marriage movement. It was thanks to Fox News. I saw a fellow on one of their evening shows making the historical marriage argument, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but sorry folks, the institution of marriage far predates Christianity and Judaism. By virtue of the fact that virtually all tribal cultures had/have marriage among their traditions, one can easily extrapolate that the notion of "bonded pairings" is about as old as humanity itself, give or take a few hundred thousand years. And contrary to what the modern faithful would have you believe, the historic definition of marriage is all over the place, in all number of combinations.

Polygamy, for starters, used to be extremely commonplace, (and still is in many places around the world). There are also known instances where (what we now would call) gay marriage took place, for reasons of both love, and/or household alliance. To say Gay Marriage has no precedent one must pretend that Rome, ancient Greece, Egypt, India, China, and numerous smaller scale societies never existed. You cannot claim history as your proof is by doing so you are ignoring whole chunks of history.

Personally, I find the entire concept of marriage to be pointless. A relic in and of itself of the past. We no longer live in Household lineages, (well, most of us at least), so we don't need marriage as a way to forge peace and cooperation. Slavery is condemend, so we no longer should feel obligated to follow a tradition that for millennia defined women as the outright property of their husbands. That's no exaggeration. Marriage is based upon sex-slavery, to a good degree. It is my hypothesis that humankind should be endeavoring to escape the trappings of our ignorant past. But thanks to Fox News' bullshit propaganda, I ardently support the rights of Gays, Lesbians, and the Transgendered to shackle themselves with wedding vows if they so desire. It's a free world, afterall...

Or at least, it's supposed to be.
